BFS-project: Unveiling the Deep Marine Biosphere. From Empirical Observation to Process Quantification
Department: Department of Earth Science
Dr. Steffen Leth Jørgensen is a group leader for a research group at the Department of Earth Science with support from Bergen Research Foundation. He is also affiliated to the K.G. Jebsen Centre for Deep Sea Research as a group leader.
He obtained his master in microbiology at the University of Aarhus in Denmark before continuing a PhD in geomicrobiology in Bergen at the Centre of Excellence in Geobiology. Here he became thematic leader for the deep biosphere, after finishing his studies in 2013. His research interest lies at the interface between microbiology and geology where he seeks to understand the complex interaction between a deep biosphere and the lithosphere in deep marine systems. Such interactions has a profound influence on the geochemical composition of both our Oceans and the atmosphere that we breath.
