Results from the Mohn Nutrition Research Laboratory
The Mohn Nutrition Research Laboratory was established at UiB in 2018. For the last five years, the laboratory has been supported by the Trond Mohn Research Foundation in collaboration with Haukeland University Hospital and the University of Bergen. This article highlights results from the research groups at the laboratory during this period. The laboratory is led by Professor Jutta Dierkes and researches obesity and malnutrition and their causes, consequences and treatment.

Current and former winners of the TMF Starting grant and selected guests spent an entertaining and informative afternoon at this year's alumni gathering under the auspices of the TMF-UiB career program. This year 100-year-old plants and new ways to motivate employees were on the agenda.

The way we communicate about antibiotic resistance has a lot to say about whether the message gets across – successful 3rd annual meeting for the CAMRIA center
The Western Norwegian Center for Antimicrobial Resistance CAMRIA organized its third annual meeting at the beginning of May. Communication about antibiotic resistance and the projects of the young researchers in the center were the main topics this time.

Congratulations on completing your TMF Starting Grant, Arjan Schakel!
Professor Arjan Schakel joined the University of Bergen´s Department of Comparative Politics with a TMF Starting Grant in 2019 to shed light on regional democracy. Directly elected regional representatives can be found in 23 European countries and they rule over more than 430 million citizens, but the study of regional governance was at that time still in its infancy.

New technology in combination with good care aims to improve the quality of life for the elderly
We must be at the forefront technologically, while at the same time retaining the important care for the ever-growing group of elderly people who will be living at home in the future, says the head of a new research center in Bergen, Professor Bettina Husebø. The Trond Mohn Foundation joins forces with the University of Bergen to fund this center with a total of NOK 52 million over the next five years.

Helen Frances Leslie-Jacobsen received a TMS Starting Grant for the project Transformation of Medieval Law: Innovation and Application in Early Modern Norwegian Law Books.

New research center at Helse Bergen will find out why patients with serious psychotic disorders have a life expectancy that is 15-20 years less than ordinary people
Psychotic disorders, which include schizophrenia and bipolar disorders, affect between 1-2 percent of the population, and at least 30,000 people currently live with such disorders in Norway. The disorders lead to a significantly reduced quality of life and 15-20 years shortened average lifespan due to both natural and unnatural causes of death. Today's treatment methods have proven to be insufficient for a large subgroup of patients, which requires new research and a rethinking of treatment options in the field.

Why do we get sick? Researchers in Bergen will find out more about this.
Norwegian researchers have unique access to data that can provide new knowledge about the causes of various diseases, but the gathering of new insights from the extensive national registers and biobanks requires collaboration across different disciplines. The Trond Mohn Foundation supports this research in a newly established research center for translational epidemiology with three new projects.
