Medical research

During the period from 2006 to 2013, the Foundation focused strongly on medicine, with emphasis on translational medicine, through Bergen Medical Research Foundation. This  also included infrastructure – and recruitment/competence-building.

2006

The foundation granted NOK 6,250,000 in 2006:

To the project Links between exocrine and endocrine pancreatic dysfunction: New treatment protocols in common diabetes, Pål Njølstad and Andreas Molven, NOK 2,000,000 per year for 3 years.

Towards international research cooperation on Food Hypersensitivity and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, Gülen Arslan, NOK 250,000.

2007

The foundation granted NOK 8,800,000 i 2007, towards:

  • The translational research project: Cancer and mesenchymal stem cells, Rolf Bjerkvig and Per Lønning, NOK 1,500,000 per year in 3 years.
  • The translational research project: The Cardioprotective Role of Insuline Therapy at Reperfusion: An Integrated Genomic and Proteomic Approach to Identify Targets Regulated by Insulin Therapy at Myocardial Reperfusion, Anne K. Jonassen and Jan Erik Nordrehaug, NOK 1,300,000 per year in 3 years.
  • International research cooperation on: Biomedical Screening of Mithochondrial Properties and Redox Status in Living Cells – a High Content Approach, Karl Johan Tronstad, NOK 200,000.
  • International research cooperation at MedVis, Odd Helge Gilja, NOK 200,000.

2008

The foundation granted NOK 12,000,000 in 2008.

To the establishment of Mohn Cancer Research Laboratory, The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry/Haukeland University Hospital, NOK 3,000,000 per year for 4 years.

The foundation granted NOK 25,344,126 towards the purchase of the following scientific equipment in 2011:

Medical Bioinformatics
In the fall of 2011 the foundation granted NOK 9,000,000 to the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry for the establishment of a research program in medical bioinformatics. Together with NOK 2,250,000 in “gaveforsterkning” from the government and an additional NOK 2,250,000 grant from the foundation, this supports the following three research projects started in 2012:

  • Roland Jonsson; ‘Omics’ Data Analysis and Visualization Group(ODAV): Enabling comprehensive interpretation of global datasets through visualization of biological states within interactive and unbiased networks. NOK 1,500,000 per year for 3 years.
  • Rolv Terje Lie; Methods for Gene-Environment Interaction Studies in Norwegian Biobanks – and their Integration in the Bioinformatics System eSysbio. NOK 1,500,000 per year for 3 years.
  • Vidar Steen; Deep sequencing in biomedicine. NOK 1,500,000 per year for 3 years
