Silke Appel
Professor Silke Appel is deputy head of the Broegelmann Research Laboratory and group leader of the Dendritic Cell Group at the Department of Clinical Science. She received a master (diploma) in biology (1997) and a PhD (Dr. rer. nat.; 2001) at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. After a postdoctoral period in Tübingen, Germany, working on ʺDifferentially expressed genes in dendritic cellsʺ, she moved to the University of Bergen where she received an Intra-European Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship.
In 2007, she received a researcher grant from the Norwegian Cancer Society and was taken up into the recruitment program of the Bergen Research Foundation with the project ”Use of dendritic cells to modulate immune responses”. The same year she also was awarded the Søren Falch and øienlæge Sigurd Falchs Juniorpris by the University of Bergen. Since 2012 she has been a professor at the Broegelmann Research Laboratory, Department of Clinical Science.
