Eirik Hovden
Eirik Hovden er forsker ved Institutt for fremmedspråk og leder for TMS-prosjekt “How does Islamic law Change? Canonization and Codification of Islamic Legal Texts”. The CanCode project will study the processes of change in Islamic law by taking as its starting point two concepts, canonization and codification. The terms are used in somewhat different ways in the professional debates, but both terms focus on the selection and validation or authorization of knowledge, values and legal rules.
The project has four empirical focus areas:
- The pre-modern and colonial Swahili coast (pre-modern canonization)
- Modern, contemporary Scandinavia (modern canonization)
- Pre-modern Yemen (pre-modern codification)
- Modern Egypt and Israel (modern codification)
