Laboratory for peptide synthesis

The Department of Chemistry has a fully-automated Biotage Initiator+ Alstra instrument for microwave-assisted peptide synthesis, which was procured with the help of funding from the Trond Mohn Foundation.

Professor Bengt Erik Haug, head of the laboratory, and his group are very happy that the modern equipment for automated synthesis and effective separation of peptides is now in place.

Access to effective peptide synthesis and, not least, the possibility to generate modified peptides is relevant to a number of research projects at UiB. Among other things, the laboratory will be used to produce peptides for use in positron-emission tomography (PET) in cooperation with the PET centre at Haukeland University Hospital.

The laboratory’s users come from the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Molecular Biology, the Centre for Pharmacy and the Department of Biomedicine, among others.
