Andreas Born

Dr. Andreas Born studied physics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the University of Potsdam, spending his final year at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He earned a PhD from the University of Bergen at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, including an extended research stay at Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement near Paris. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Bern, partly funded by a Marie-Curie grant from the European Union, he returned to Bergen in January 2017, to start his project.

His scientific interests extend from ocean and sea ice dynamics to the study of ice sheets and the atmospheric changes that govern their mass balance. He has a keen interest in paleoclimate that connects these neighboring fields. His work makes regular use of numerical models across the entire range of complexity, from simplified conceptual models to state-of-the-art coupled climate models that run on the world’s fastest supercomputers.
