Helen Frances Leslie-Jacobsen

Helen F. Leslie-Jacobsen is a researcher at the University of Bergen and project leader for the project “Transformations of Medieval Law: Innovation and Application in Early Modern Norwegian Law Books”. Her current work focuses on the legal history of Norway, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands, on legal manuscripts, legal translation and the development of legal reference material in the medieval and Early Modern periods.

Helen is a specialist in Old Norse philology with broader interests in medieval and Early Modern studies. She completed her BA (2006) and first MA (2007) at the University of Durham, UK, and her second MA at the University of Iceland (2008). She obtained her doctorate from the University of Bergen (Norway, 2013). Between 2013 and 2018, Helen worked as a translator and then as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bergen, where she worked on Old Norwegian law, amongst other projects.
