Between 2008 and 2013 he was Research Director for the New Ecologies of the Image project, funded by the foundation. In 2007 he became the first full professor in the field of Visual Culture in Norway by accepting a post at the University of Stavanger. He is also founding editor (with \u00d8yvind V\u00e5gnes) of the peer-reviewed journal\u00a0<i>Ekphrasis: Nordic Journal of Visual Culture<\/i>. He is dr. art. in English\/American Studies from the University of Bergen (2003) and he was the recipient of a postdoctoral grant from the Norwegian Research Council (2004-2007) for a project on transgressive art cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He has been a visiting professor to the University of California-Berkeley (2006-2007; 2011 &amp; 2013) and to the University of Amsterdam (2005; 2013). He has also been a Fulbright grantee twice (1998-1999 &amp; 2017-2018).
