He completed an undergraduate degree in physics at the University of New Brunswick, Canada (2003) followed by graduate degrees (MSc in 2006 and PhD in 2010) in physical oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program.
