The system is intended to both prevent and combat crime, but encounters ever increasing challenges, particularly with respect to efficient crime prevention.<\/p>\n<p>The project\u2019s overriding goal has been to stimulate dialogue and the exchange of experience and knowledge between academia and actors in the criminal justice system. A range of different seminars and conferences have been held \u2013 including a large international police law conference. The objective has been for this dialogue to lead to better research and higher quality in the criminal justice system in the long term.<\/p>\n<p>The research initiative has been affiliated with existing research projects in the criminal justice community at the Faculty of Law at the University of Bergen, and has contributed to positive synergies for one of the Faculty\u2019s strongest research communities.<\/p>\n<p>Police and Prosecution Law<\/p>\n<h3>The project builds on the functionality of the criminal justice system initiative and will focus on two areas:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The police\u2019s tasks in operational police work<\/li>\n<li>The police and prosecution authorities\u2019 tasks in criminal proceedings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The project has a five-year timeframe and is co-funded by\u00a0BFS,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politi.no\/om\/organisasjonen\/andre\/politidirektoratet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the National Police Directorate<\/a>\u00a0and the Faculty of Law at UiB<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gert Johan Kjelby \u2013 about the project:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Its main objective is to fill knowledge gaps in jurisprudence by generating research on the legal conditions for the police and prosecution authorities\u2019 performance of their social mission<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"infobox light-brown\"><p>The Functionality of Criminal Justice System project in brief:<\/p>\n<p>Project period: 2011-2015<\/p>\n<p>Project leader: Linda Gr\u00f8ning<br \/>\nHost institution: University of Bergen<br \/>\nFunding: 16MNOK<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uib.no\/prosjekt\/srf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more<\/a><\/p><\/div><div class=\"infobox light-brown\"><p>The Police- and Prosecution Law project in brief:<\/p>\n<p>Project period: 2017-2021<\/p>\n<p>Project leader:\u00a0Gert Johan Kjelby<br \/>\nHost institution;
